The iPad Laptop is a small flat notebook that is in Slate form. It has a touch screen OS and is used much in the same way as the iPhone. It is a much bigger system, about the span of an open book. This is convenient because one of its main uses is as an eBook device, which allows users to download text onto the screen and read it like a book. It is much like the Kindle product made by Amazon.

It is to officially go on sale at the end of March, 2010 and orders have already broken records. It has gotten huge amounts of press and made its first major appearance on stage at the Grammy Awards. It was used as a plug for Apple, since the iPad was read from to announce the winner.

From behind it looks like a small, closed Apple laptop. From the front, it looks like an iPhone five times its normal size. It has no keyboard or mouse that come with it, though it is very sophisticated technology that is able to play music, record sound, use almost all current Macintosh programs for computer and phone, connect to the web, download many different types of files, and make phone calls.

It weighs just a pound and a half, which is amazing considering its memory and battery capabilities. It connects to WiFi. On the outside, it is easily the simplest of modern Apple products. There is only one USB port and one headphone jack. There are speakers and a microphone built in. That is it.

This product had been in the works for seventeen years before it was finally released in January 2010. Its long production ensured firstly that all the major kinks and problems could be worked out. It secondly made the hype over the product far more than it would have been over any other Apple product.

Despite this, many people were shocked by the price which is five hundred dollars. This is not including if you would like accessories like a mouse or keyboard plug in. Some have wondered at the lack of some features. Perhaps they will be offered later as upgrades in software form in order to make more money. These problems are the device’s inability to run more than one program at a time, no video camera despite the microphone (meaning video chat cannot happen), and problems with the wide screen format.

There has been a lot of controversy regarding the name. Some find it to have repugnant associations and some are upset that the name was not originally theirs, but was rather taken after another product named iPAD was abandoned. Nevertheless, Apple cannot go back on the name now since it has gained so much publicity and is ready to go on shelves shortly.

Lawyers from both sides are unsure to whom the name legally belongs and if there is an impending law suit. It is doubtful it will harm sales at all, though it may delay the product reaching shelves. If there is one, it will be cutting it very close to the release date.

I remember these times because I was in the computer repair business even back then. I actually reformatted some hard drives and reinstalled operating systems on them as well. The reason I was forced into doing this is because the registry in the old copy of Windows was so far gone there was nothing anyone could do to bring it back to its original state.

These corrupt files will cause the computer the Windows operating system is installed on to slow down. There are other bad things registry corruption can cause. However, the most prevalent and usually the first sign that these corrupt registry files are present is a computer that is becoming sluggish. The point is; Windows 7 is not immune to registry corruption just because it’s the newest operating system around.

Just like with Windows 95 or Windows 98, cleaning corrupt files from the registry will get Windows 7′s functionality back in gear and allow your high-powered computer to run free. In other words, cleaning your Windows 7 registry will get your computer speed back in most cases. So, if your computer that has Windows 7 installed upon it seems like it’s getting slower, it’s not your imagination, it probably really is getting slower because there are probably corrupt files developing inside of the registry. Compared to today’s operating systems, Windows 95 is tiny. Still however, Windows 95 registries were often affected by registry corruption and in fact, registry corruption was the demise of many a Windows 95 OS.

One of the main differences was back then; Windows registry cleaners were not really available. There was a Windows program called registry checker. This built in Windows program located registry problems but depended upon a technician to come in and fix these problems. This was a far from foolproof method of maintaining a Windows registry.

Computer Clean Up Software

Windows address books are part of every Windows operating system. Even though in Vista, Outlook Express changed to Windows Mail, it doesn’t matter, the Windows address book is still contained within it.

Microsoft recommends backing up your Windows Address Book so you will have a copy available should anything happen to it. Here is how you backup your Windows address book:

• Go to the start menu and then click on computer or my computer.
• Double-click n the icon of your C drive
• Double-click program files
• Double-click Windows mail or Outlook express
• You will find wab contained in this folder
• Right-click it and click save in the contextual menu
• Go to the top of the open box and click on file-new-folder
• Name this new folder “backup”
• Open up this backup file right-click inside it and choose paste from the contextual menu
• Now you will see a copy of your Wab folder in your backup folder
• Rename it to something like WAB_old

The reason for all this is now if you are unable to open up your Windows address book or there is something else wrong with it like, for instance, all of your addresses were erased, you can move your Wab_old file into the Windows Mail folder and simply rename it WAB.

However, still one problem remains. Many times your wab folder will not open up not because there is something wrong with it but because there is corruption in your registry. Corrupt registry files will lead Windows to believe your Windows address book is located in a place it is not. This is simply the way registry corruption works and it is a very common phenomenon in Windows.

So, the first thing to do when there is a problem with Windows finding a Windows Address Book, or any other folder for that matter, is run a registry cleaner. This will remove the corruption from the registry in Windows will no matter where all of its parts are located. This includes your Windows Address Book. So the next time you open your Windows address book it will be very likely to open.

I’ve seen articles online telling you how to alphabetize your favorites menu using regedit. Alphabetizing your favorites menu by working in the control panel is very easy. So why would you want to risk your operating system altogether by doing something you can do while taking no risk? In short, the rule of thumb about tweaking your registry using a program such as regedit is: don’t do it!

Of course, a registry cleaner actually checks the Windows registry as well as repairs problems it has found.

The Windows built-in program, registry checker, was replaced in later Windows operating systems by a program simply called “scannow.” This program is run at a command prompt. It is not really very helpful because it reports errors it has found but actually requires technical skills to repair these errors.

Registry checker, too, also has the same problem. In other words it is good at checking things out but it is not capable of repairing errors it finds. It is a registry cleaner, which is not a built-in Windows program that a computer user needs to locate and repair registry errors.

It is important registry errors not be left to build up with inside the Windows operating system simply because these errors will raise havoc with the performance of the computer. The most noteworthy problem registry errors cause is computer slowdowns. Problems with the Windows registry have the capability of slowing the computer down to the point it makes using it not worth the trouble.

There are free registry cleaners available. They can be found at various locations on the net. As one who has repaired computers for over 10 years now, I advise against using free registry cleaners or, any tool that is made to install onto your computer and can be gotten for free. The reason for this is many free programs are laden with spyware. Sometimes the spyware will just annoy you with pop-up ads but other times it may actually be out to steal personal and financial information about you!

So it is best to use a registry cleaner that comes recommended by someone who has used it or knows something about it. The reason I say this, is because even some paid registry cleaners are not trustworthy. However, the bottom line is; it impossible these days to get away without using a registry cleaner periodically.

Registry corruption makes itself known in many ways. A computer running slowly, giving error messages, freezing or crashing or just being unstable is telling you to run a registry cleaner to check for registry corruption. Also, when anything is installed on the PC, Windows gathers the information about this software or hardware. It is easy for Windows to read a new software program being installed, especially if it is Windows approved software.

When hardware is installed, a software package called a device driver is installed along with it. It is the device driver that tells Windows what is contained in the hardware. Windows also keeps track of the device drivers in its registry.

The point is; Windows learns about everything involved with the computer during the installation process and on-the-fly as things are added and deleted from the computer.

NTFS stands for New Technology Filing System and is used in most of the newer Windows operating systems. The point to all this is: Windows 2000 is not unusual and most registry cleaners that will clean Windows XP will clean Windows 2000. However, you must always be sure the registry cleaner documentation tells you a particular registry cleaner can be used on a particular operating system before you use it. In other words, you can never be sure.

The insides of the Windows 2000 operating system are very similar to the insides of the Windows XP operating system. One of the big differences between Windows XP and Windows 2000 is that Windows XP has many different sub operating systems that sprung off of the main Windows XP operating system itself. In other words, there is Windows XP home, Windows XP professional and several other options to choose from when you are choosing the Windows XP operating system. So, what does Mr. Gates mean by centric and what will it do for us? The word centric is derived from the word center. A centric structure has its main body in the middle and layers form around it which this central body controls. However, the real meaning I get from the way the word centric is being used here is that Microsoft is the central
body.

Tracers

The reason I say this is because Windows 7 uses tracers to keep our operating system running. Whereas Windows used to have you click OK to send a report to Microsoft after a crash, this is no longer necessary because Windows tracers will take care of it. While all this sounds 1984ish, it really is not a bad thing.

If you were to take your Windows Operating System disk and try to install it on another computer, you would not be able to. So, you can see Microsoft has, to some extent been in our homes for a while already. Though this concept may be hard for some of us to swallow, that is just the way it is.

Cutting the Waste

Of course, probably what Mr. Gates was meaning to convey by centric is that the time has come for operating systems to be very, very efficient. In the past, upgrades were built as additions slapped onto the previous operating system.
With Windows 7′s centric system the waste has been cut from the inner to the outer core of the system. This makes it so your microprocessor can do more while working less. Windows 7 has achieved this goal by sacrificing, to some extent, compatibility. In other words, you won’t see too many programs compatible with Windows 7 and everything else.

No Windows Mail!

Window 7 comes without Windows Mail or Photo Gallery installed. However a free download including these two pieces of software and some other niece features as well, can be downloaded for free. All in all, I see this as a plus over previous operating systems.

Some users of Windows 7 have complained it is slow. Actually, this operating system is built for speed but your computer has to have the horsepower to run it. A 40GB hard drive with 16GB of free space is an absolute minimum. Also, you cannot even get this OS off the ground without at least 1 GB of RAM. Microsoft states the minimum speed of the processor to be 1 GHZ, but I would add you need a top Microprocessor with ample L1 cache onboard. In other words, a so-so computer will not run Windows 7 very well.

Still, this operating system has some nice features. Myself, I have been delighted with my Windows Vista system but with we computer users becoming more and more video obsessed, an operating system structured to cutout wasted computer effort is needed. Windows 7 is at least an attempt at designing this non wasteful, centric system.

The Microsoft people have come up with a new version of an operating system in recent months. In an interview to Newsweek, Bill Gates announced this version is meant to be more user centric than previous OS’s. This is a new wrinkle of an upgrade. Certainly, earlier versions of the Windows operating systems were never said to be centric, though in some ways, they were.

That is, they were very difficult for the average user to use and they were somewhat difficult for even a skilled technician to use. Registry Repair Programs

In fact, the two types of main registry cleaners would be those designed for:

• Windows 95
• Windows 98
• Windows ME

 And those designed for:

• Windows 2000
• Windows XP
• Windows Vista
• Windows 7

The reason for these differences is the fact that Windows, up until Windows 2000, all used a filing system known as F AT 32 and this filing system used a registry that consisted of six main parts known as hives.

Windows 2000, or actually a prelude to Windows 2000 known as Windows NT, changed this filing system to one called NTFS and this system used five registry hives instead of six.

Technically, Windows 2000 came out just before Windows ME. However Windows ME clearly belongs to the six hive registry family, whereas Windows 2000 belongs to the five hive Windows registry system.

Besides the filing systems used and the number of hives used by different Windows operating systems, there are other differences between operating systems, even those of the same family. However, these differences are largely a matter of size.

Windows XP is a much larger operating system, and therefore has a much larger registry then Windows 2000. However, Windows Vista is much bigger than Windows XP and Windows 7 is much bigger still than any of them.

Even the older six hive registry operating systems became bigger as the newer ones came down the pike. For instance, Windows 95 was tiny compared to Windows 98 and Windows ME. However, most registry cleaners capable of cleaning ME were also capable of cleaning Windows 95 and Windows 98.

Still, many registry cleaners are capable of cleaning Windows 98 operating systems right through to Windows 7 operating systems even though this means they must be capable of dealing with both six and five hive registries. You really have to check the specs on a registry cleaner and never assume it’ll clean one operating system just because it cleans another.

There are probably more registry cleaners that will clean Windows XP registries than any other. Also, even though Windows 7 has been around for a while now, there are a lot of registry cleaners, even big-name registry cleaners that are not yet ready for Windows seven. So, once again you must check which operating systems a registry cleaner is ready for before you proceed to use it.

Win XP Registry Cleaner

The older Windows operating systems, namely Windows 95, Windows 98 and ME all used registries that were split into six different main hives. Even though this is the case, there are many registry cleaners that will clean Windows ME registries and are also capable of cleaning a Windows XP registry, for instance.

So, this means that even though Windows 7 is an operating system that is more similar to Windows Vista than Windows 95, don’t assume that all registry cleaners that will clean Windows Vista will also clean Windows 7. In fact, there are lots a registry cleaners that are still incapable of cleaning Windows 7 registries.

In other words, you have to look before you clean your registry. Make sure that you have a Windows registry cleaner that is capable of cleaning Windows 7 before you use it. Actually, if you did use a registry cleaner incapable of cleaning Windows 7, nothing very awful would happen. However, you would see a pop-up that would tell you your operating system is not compatible with the program you are running; that is all.

When Windows Vista was the new kid on the block, it took a long time before most registry cleaners were capable of cleaning it. In fact, as hard as it may be to believe there are still registry cleaners, some of them highly renowned, that will only clean registries in operating systems as new as Windows XP. Obviously, the companies that designed these registry cleaners are way behind the times!

Whether the registry cleaner says it is Windows 7 certified or Windows 7 ready; it really doesn’t matter. Ready or certified really mean the same thing. They mean the internals of the software program will do the job of ridding your Windows 7 registry of corruption and duplicate files and they will add files that are missing from your registry.

One final point is the fact Windows 7 is as prone to collecting registry corruption as any other Windows operating system. Just because it’s newer doesn’t mean that registry corruption is any less of a problem to it. Yes, there has been many improvements made and Windows 7. However, its registry still does collect corruption so it is very important to keep it cleaned out with a good registry cleaner. If you don’t clean the corruption every once in a while, the computer will start become slow and may give erratic error messages and even crash on occasion.

Registry Cleaner for Windows 7

For instance, it was next to impossible to get a Windows 95 driven computer to hook up to a network. Since Windows XP was released, our PC’s hook up to any network available without hardly any effort on our part. The reason Windows 95 was network unfriendly didn’t have anything to do with networking technology not being available because it was available.

High Speed Cable and Windows 95?

However, broadband was not readily available in the Windows 95 days. So, the improvement that made Windows easy to marry with a network was born of the fact technology outside the computer forced the issue. What a wonderful development, by the way! Could you imagine using a dial up internet connection these days!?! Ouch!

Remember how long it used to take to download anything?  It wasn’t unusual for downloads to take over an hour.  as slow as it was, it was also impossible, and it still is,  to not be amazed that this technology was available at all!

However, most improvements to our operating systems have come about because our computers have become more powerful. Back in the Windows 95 era, we were saddled by the fact 1GB hard drives and 32MB of RAM were the best we could expect our computers to be supplied with. So, many advancements were made to Windows through the years so we can now take advantage of the fact Terabyte hard drives and chip sets that address 4GB of RAM are at our beck and call. In other words, we now have great technology available; we might as well use it.

Word Pad – A Real Word Processor

Some of Windows 7 improvements have come sort of unexpectedly. For instance, Win7′s version of Word Pad is able to open up .doc files. So, for our more mundane tasks, Word 2007 is unneeded. Another interesting feature that is included in the latest operating system is the snipping tool. With this tool, it is very easy to capture any screenshot and save it as a jpg to the hard drive.

Windows 7 has even updated the calculator. Now using the calculator one can even see the inches in millimeters and the gallons also can be converted into cubic centimeters. Another feature that has been introduced is the open Windows command prompt. It is kind of a techie thing but it is convenient that you can now open a command prompt to any folder by right clicking that folder and choosing “Open command window here.”

Many people might not really love all these new additional features that have been added in Windows 7. However, every new addition does add a little ease to which you can do your everyday tasks. There are no really earth shattering changes contained in Windows 7, just a few things that may make our computing lives easier. For my money that is well worth the upgrade. It has been said many times, it is the little things that matter most. If this is true, Windows 7 is the best operating yet!

Microsoft Windows 7 – Is It Worth Upgrading to Win7?

Windows 98 registries, and Windows 95 and Windows ME registries for that matter, use a registry system that consists of six main parts. Main parts of registries are referred to as registry “hives.” Windows 2000, 2003, XP, Vista and Seven all use registries they consist of five hives. Therefore, you can see these Windows registries are more like each other then they are similar to Windows 95, 98 and ME. So, you can see there may be some registry cleaners that will not be capable of jumping over the line, so to speak, to clean Win 98 registries when they are compliant with five hive registries.  However, many registry cleaners are capable of cleaning both six and five hive registries.

Back when Windows 95 and 98 ruled the computing world, registry cleaners were not available. Therefore cleaning the registry was an arduous task. Many times, computers would just continue to get slower and slower until they were replaced simply because there was no easy way to clear out registry problems. Registry problems are very common and creep up in all Windows operating systems, even if the computer is very well cared for. In other words, Windows registry problems are just a way of life and always have been.

The bottom line is; if you have an older computer that has Windows 98 and it isn’t running so well you may not be out of luck. Possibly, all you will have to do is install a registry cleaner on the computer and you will bring it back to life again. However beware, computers with Windows 98 installed are usually, absolutely prehistoric. In other words, they usually have an early Pentium microprocessor or possibly a Pentium II with a 2.2 GHz hard drive and 128K of RAM. They may run, or should we say crawl at about 300 MHz of speed. Therefore, a Windows 98 computer system running to all as potential will probably not be what you would be used to if you have been using a computer less than three years old.

Still, a PC with Windows 98 installed, though it may be considered a real dinosaur, can be useful and certainly it will bring back memories. Aside from that, why throw it out when it may be a $30 registry cleaner will revamp it entirely.

However, when you buy something of dubious quality, or even worse you download something for free, you can be just about sure you will be loading something onto your computer that is not good for it or for your privacy.

Also, the old adage, “you get what you pay for” applies with registry cleaners maybe more than anything else. Earlier versions of Windows had a lot of features to provide to the user, this new Windows version expands the user’s options even further. When windows seven was introduced to the market, people were curious to know what was the goal of Microsoft to launch such an operating system, which was devoid of new features and making those things we have come to expect optional. To this Bill Gate had commented in an interview, that this version was supposed to be more users centric. It was said that this version is supposed to focus on the improvements of performance.

Windows Tracers

To this end, there were new tracing tools added to this system. These tracers measure the performance of the various areas of the operating system, so that some inefficient paths in the code can be done away with and performance regressions on the system can be avoided.

With the help of these tracers, the OS can be monitored on an ongoing basis. Does this sound scary to you? It does concern me somewhat, but truly we never actually own a Windows operating system, we just pay Microsoft to use one copy on one computer. Unless, of course, we buy a more expensive license.

Still, this is the way of the world, at least, the Microsoft world. So, if we want to use Windows operating systems we have to make some concessions. I only hope these concessions stop short of giving up our privacy.

Other than this one sore spot, I must say, Windows Seven is an improvement that was needed in the rapidly changing world of computers.

How is it possible a brand new operating system could be slow? The two reasons we are finding that are responsible when Windows 7 is sluggish are compatibility issues and the iffy minimum requirements Microsoft has set.

New Computer – No Problem

Sure, if you buy a new computer you’re all set, it is those who upgrade to Windows 7 who are finding problems. There are two versions of Win7 on the market; a 32 bit version and a 64 bit version. The requirements are basic, a 1 GHz processor, 1 GB of main memory, a DVD-RW drive, available space of 16GB and a support for the graphics of DX9 with a memory interface of 128 MB.

As always seems to happen, when upgrade a PC that is only equipped with the minimum requirements, you end up getting minimum performance; as in slow! 2.0GHZ is really what the minimum should be to get good speed out of Windows 7 and for the 64 bit you really should be sporting 2GB of RAM too.

Not Very Adaptable

Another issue is the compatibility one we mentioned before. Windows 7 in some ways isn’t as much an upgrade as it is a start over. In other words there a lot of programs coming out that are ready for Windows 7 only. No more Window98/ME/2000/XP/ect when it comes to Windows 7. This is new OS in many ways.

As time goes on, like all Microsoft operating systems, Windows 7 will slow down due to registry corruption. Having a registry cleaner on hand is a wise move. Though many things have changed in 7, it still has a registry right in the middle of it. I guess it isn’t all new.

It is unimaginable there will ever be a Windows operating system that doesn’t have a registry. This is just the way Windows works. Since entries are being written and deleted to and from the registry at rapid speeds. It is impossible not to develop some corruption inside of it. Actually, when you think about it, faster and more powerful operating systems will probably tend to build more corruption then slower, less powerful ones. So, it is as important as ever to have the means whereby you can repair the registry on-the-fly. Using a simple registry cleaner is the way you can do this.

Still, I give Windows 7 high grades. I really just don’t recommend upgrading your current machine to run it. To me, Windows Vista is great for any computer that was released over the past couple of years. I think Windows 7 is the perfect fit for a brand new high power PC with a dual core processor ready to run on 64 bit. Sure, 64 bit! As long as you’re going to be using an OS that isn’t compatible with the rest of the world anyway, go for the big bopper. 3GHZ, 64 bit, 4GB RAM and a Terabyte hard drive. Let it rip!

Some years ago, the only kind of malware we had to deal with were computer viruses. The job of a computer virus was always to annoy computer operators to one extent or another.

I’ve seen spyware make computers unusable as well. Spyware by itself doesn’t replicate itself. However, it is not unheard of to find a spyware-unprotected PC with more than 1,000 spyware infections. With this much spyware present on a hard drive, the operating system will have all it can do to try to accommodate them. In a situation like this, you probably wouldn’t be able to start any of you programs, like Word or IE, for instance.

The bottom line is viruses and spyware have the capability of keeping your operating system and microprocessor busy to the point you will not get any response from your computer or at best, a very slow response. So, it is very important to keep your computer free of these things. I recommend using a good virus protection program that cleans out all types of spyware as well.

It is also very wise to have a registry cleaner on hand as well. From what I’ve seen, registry corruption has slowed down more computers than anything else. There is nothing malicious about it. It simply occurs from normal use and tends to make computers very sluggish.

Whenever programs or hardware is uninstalled these entries should also be uninstalled in their entirety. However, this doesn’t usually happen. Most times, device drivers uninstall partially. This is because most times a device driver shares some of its duties with more than one device.

So, it is easy to see how the device driver uninstall process could potentially be a perilous bit of maneuvering! More than this, there is one more complicating factor:

Upgrades

Whenever software or device drivers upgrade, they actually perform an uninstall and an install as a part of the upgrade process. Of course, it is the uninstall we are most concerned with.

Over time the registry builds up unwanted and inaccurate entries, or junk because of this. This junk will make the operating system have to work harder and harder to do what it used to do in a snap.

What to Do?

So, what does this mean to computer users like you and me? It means we got to clean that registry out once in a while.

Why Does My Computer Run So Slow?

Runtime errors are very common in PC’s running Windows operating systems. They usually refer to some file or other that is missing or invalid. The 339 runtime error most often references a file called msomct.ocx.

Ocx files are active X files. You probably see this term used a lot a lot in reference to information being blocked from your computer. This is because active X doesn’t only write to your computer; it also receives information from you. While this may seem devious, most often it is not. In some programs, active X is what allows you to scroll your scrollbar.

Browsing the Library

Msomct is a library file that makes Windows able to communicate with Microsoft office. So, when a 339 error occurs, it is an error that happens while loading or using Microsoft office. If an msomct.ocx is missing, it could be because it was not downloaded properly when the operating system was installed. This would be a very unusual circumstance.

Actually, on any newer operating system the file missing would be msomct2.ocx since this is the later version of the file. Yes, re-installing the operating system would fix the problem. However, this would be like changing the engine in your car if one of your sparkplug wires went bad. You don’t need a whole operating system; you just need one library file!

Where did that File Go?

In reality, you probably don’t even need a library file. It is much more likely registry corruption or files that are missing in the registry are causing the operating system to be unable to find the msomct.ocx. The reason this is so much more likely an occurrence is because registry files can be deleted for any of several reasons. Registry files that become missing are an everyday occurrence. On the other hand, msomct files don’t get deleted very easily.

Not to belabor the issue 0of the 339 error but basically, all computer errors occur from similar scenarios. In short, when registry files are deleted, they make it impossible for the OS to find programs; even huge programs they are looking for. So, instead of re-installing your operating system in order to re-install an msomct.oxc or any registry file, it is much more pragmatic to clean the registry with registry fix software.

Cleaning the registry not only cleans registry corruption, it also re-installs missing registry files. So, normally, this is the best way to attack any computer error.

The Wrong Program Altogether

Another possible way a computer could saddle you with a runtime error is if an incompatible program was installed. In other words if a program not ready for Windows Vista was installed on Windows Vista, a runtime error would occur when you tried to run the program.

This is another thing that doesn’t happen very often as most times, the operating system’s installer program will recognize when an incompatible program is being installed and it will refuse to finish the job.

The bottom line is the newer Windows operating system’s registries corrupt very easily. Registry Fix Software – Will it Fix a 339 Runtime Error?

How much more memory can 64 bit address? The answer is mind boggling. While it seems like adding an extra 32 bits to our computer’s power structure should grant us an extra 4GB of computer power, this is not the case. In fact, these extra 32 bits multiply our computer’s power. In other words, 64 bit systems, technically can address 4GB X 4GB of RAM. This number calculates to more than 18 Exabytes! The actual calculation is 4,294,967,296 X 4,294,967,296 = 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 Bytes of RAM.

Needless to mention is the fact we have no computer architecture available today to actually work with such a massive amount of memory. However, this does illustrate that 64 bit computer systems take all the limits off future advancements. The limits that are set on our computer’s capacities now are things like:

* How many CPU’s can we cram into a motherboard?
* How many tracks can we attach to our PC boards? And,
* How complex a chipset can we develop to coordinate all the movements of a system talking back and forth to 18 gig of memory?

The Trouble with 64

Still, the fact remains 64 bit does make for a very mean machine! Of course, the fact these newer systems are much more powerful doesn’t mean they are maintenance free or immune to trouble. In fact, these computers present their own problems. Probably the most prevalent of the 64 bit problems is the compatibility issue. The simple fact is, many programs are not yet compatible with these computers and many people have put off purchasing them because of this fact.

I have owned a 64-bit laptop for about a year now and I must say I’ve run into this compatibility problem every now and then. However, all in all I feel the advantages to owning this PC far outweigh the compatibility disadvantages I sometimes encounter. I would think anyone using video on his/her computer would benefit by taking the leap to 64 bit, but this is just my opinion.

64 bits of Corruption

Another of the 64 bit troubles many of us are encountering is keeping the registry free of corruption. For a 64 bit computer to function it needs to be running a 64 bit operating system. The most familiar of these are Windows XP64, Windows Vita64 and Windows 7 X64. Naturally, these operating systems have registries different from their 32 bit predecessors.

Being a stickler for keeping my registry in top shape; when I first got my 64 bit computer with Windows Vista64, I looked to get a registry cleaner to use on it as part of its regular upkeep. The problem was I couldn’t find one. Thankfully, there are now very good registry cleaners available that are compatible with my computer and operating system.

It is worth mentioning that another potential 64 bit problem is the fact their registries are very complex. This, of course, makes keeping corruption out of them doubly important because registry corruption can cause a lot of slowdowns, freezes and other types of computer aggravations. We just don’t need our machines that have been built for speed to suddenly start causing us trouble.

64 bit Computer Problems – The Good and the Bad of 64 bit PC’s

 The Windows built-in free registry checker will only locate problems, if you have any, inside your Windows registry. After it points these problems out to you, it is up to you to actually repair the problem, or problems.

 The way you would do this would be by visiting the Microsoft website and by using the code free registry checker has given you, to find the procedure Microsoft recommends you follow to repair the registry problem.

There was a time this was the best way to go about repairing registry problems. This is true because an alternative method was to start the Windows program “regedit” and look for corrupted files in the registry and repair them manually. This procedure took the expertise of a very, very skilled Microsoft computer technician!

 Another program Microsoft has included in some of its operating systems, to help with cleaning up registry corruption, is a program called scannow. This program, while more effective than free registry checker also requires technical expertise as it is run from a command prompt. Most computer users are not too familiar or anxious to operate from a command point level. Most of us are much more familiar and comfortable dealing with the Windows graphical user interface.

 For these reasons, a good registry cleaner is very much preferred to either free registry checker or scannow. The first type of internet freeze is really more of an internet stall. This is true because when it occurs, if left alone, it unfreezes itself. If the operating system you’re using is Windows XP or Vista, they usually do a great job at allocating the perfect amount of space. However, with an older OS, you may need to choose an amount on your own. 100MB will usually do the trick.

Sometimes you will notice, particularly in an older computer, even if it is using XP or Vista, the amount of space allocated is more than the amount recommended. When this happens, it is time to click on the button that says “Disk Cleanup.”

• System File Checker or SFC

The built-in registry checker tool is available up until Windows 98. It was run very much in the same way a registry cleaner is run these days. Scanreg was run from the run box. In other words, you would click start- run and type scanreg.exe into the run box.

There were many drawbacks to this free internal program. One of these drawbacks is the fact scanreg would make a backup of the registry upon a successful computer boot up. The scanreg program would attempt to replace bad registry files is found with good ones from the backup program it made from a previous successful boot up. Sometimes, for one reason or another, this good registry backup would not be available. Therefore, registry checker would try to fix the registry but usually it would not have the good files to repair it.

Another drawback was scanreg was it potentially would replace updated files with older ones. In other words, after a Windows update, Windows would have all its newest files in the registry. However, after running registry checker, files that were older than the updated files would replace the updated files. This would make the registry act as if it had registry corruption. In other words it would slow down the computer.

As of Windows XP, the built-in registry repair program changed to System File Checker, or SFC. SFC is run at a command line. The command that is written at the prompt is SFC/scannow. The drawback here is the fact it does have to be run from a command line and many people are not comfortable operating from this venue. On top of that, SFC will find problems, if there are any, in the registry but it will be up to the user to find good files from a registry backup to replace the bad ones System File Checker found.

In other words SFC is for the geeks. Even for many of us geeks, the registry cleaner of choice is simply a commercial registry cleaner. With a user-friendly graphical user interface all we have to do is click a button with our mouse and the registry cleaner will take care of the rest. It will find registry corruption and repair it all in one shot. In my opinion you can’t go wrong repairing your registry in this way. It is easy and it’s quick!

Still, even though there is a cost, most people think the price is well worth the convenience a registry cleaner gives you.

Reg Fixer

One of the problems with registry checker was that it did not upgrade. So, after Windows upgraded the operating system by running Windows Update, running registry checker would overwrite many of the upgraded files with the original ones. In other words, the upgrade would be nullified by registry checker.

SFC has replaced Registry Checker

SFC is a newer version of registry checker and it has made improvements over the original version. It does not have the problem of overwriting upgraded files. However, SFC is a command line utility. This means many everyday computer users are not comfortable using it. This is understandable. To further complicate matters, SFC simply finds problems with the registry but it leaves repairing them up to the user.

Using SFC

Up on boot up, Windows makes a copy of all the files that were successfully loaded up. When SFC finds problems in the registry, it is up to the user to find the files that were successfully backed up on the last computer boot up and use these files to replace the bad ones SFC has found.

SFC is run in the command line by using the command SFC/scannow. This scan is very useful if there are no problems with the registry. For instance, if your computer is running slowly and you’re trying to find out why it is, running SFC will tell you whether or not there are problems in the registry. If there aren’t, you’ll know it is not registry corruption responsible for slowing down your computer. However, if SFC does turn up problems, it can be a somewhat awkward and arduous task to repair these files.

Let me digress at this point to make the claim the lack of registry attention a Mac requires does not mean they are superior in every way.  In fact, having used both Macs and PC’s in my business and for personal use, I favor PCs by a wide margin.  However, in their later Windows versions, namely Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7, registry problems are likely to occur in them.  When they do, the computer will slow down and become liable to pop up error messages, crash and/or freeze up.

This means it is wise to have a PC registry repair program installed on your PC.  These programs, which are better known as registry cleaners, will take care of all registry problems automatically and while doing so prevent these freezes, crashes and slow downs.  With a price tag of usually, less than $40 for yearly use, it is little to pay to have the diversity and freedom PCs give you over Macs.

Why would you want to find out if your computer’s registry had bad and missing files?  Bad and/or missing registry files are also known as registry corruption.  More than any other computer problem, registry corruption will cause a computer to lose some or all of its speed.  Actualy, registry corruption will sometimes cause a PC to become frustratingly slow!

Windows Registry Repair

Windows registry clean tools come in a couple different flavors.  The first kind is simply a program that provides the user with an interface where he is able to address the Windows registry and make changes, modifications and/or repairs to the registry.  This interface also allows the user to add registry entries.

Usually, when we think of a Windows registry clean interface, we think of “regedit.”  Regedit is a software program that is built into every Windows operating system.  It is accessed by typing “regedit’ into the run box in the start menu.  There are other proprietary registry clean programs that can be bought and/or downloaded from the Internet.  However, regedit is the most recognized one because it is so readily available.

Yes, there are inferior registry cleaners around, but using a top performing one will take away any care you could have about properly maintaining your registry.  You should only trust your computer’s registry to a very reliable registry cleaner, because the registry is so important to operating system!  Why take a chance with a cheap one when a top flight is actually very inexpensive?

Yes, registry corruption will slow down your PC and this is why most people initially become acquainted with registry cleaners.  Finding out cleaning the registry will get the computer running as fast as it once did piques the interest of many who have become frustrated with their snail speed computers.  Also a corrupt registry wiil potentially make a PC act up in a variety of other ways as well.

However, regedit or any of these tools should not be used by anyone who is not thoroughly familiar with Windows registries.  This is because entering the run thing into registry or deleting anything could make the operating system unusable.  What is worse is this damage may be irreversible!

The second type of registry editing tool is highly recommended.  It is a registry cleaner.  A registry cleaner can do anything a human could in a fraction of the time with no risk involved.   However, make sure to use the right one because the using the wrong registry cleaner is a waste of time.  The right one will clear out all computer errors and get your computer’s speed back up to its highest potential.

Even folks who have worked on computers a long time prefer using a registry cleaner to making changes to the registry manually.  The reason for this is it is just so much easier to run a software program than it is to perform the tedious tasks that are involved when working on a registry manually!  This is not to even mention the pressure involved when you know if you do mess-up you may make the operating system unworkable.  This is the type of pressure one used to feel before registry cleaning software was developed.

Also known as registry repair tools or registry cleaners, these utilities are usually 100% automatic.  In other words, once they are installed on your Windows based PC, they will scan the entire Windows registry for any kind of problem at the click of a mouse button.  Then, after you give the utility program the okay with another mouse click, this same utility will re-scan the entire registry once again, and fix all the problems it has found.

Registry Clean Utility

Sometimes her problem would be worst than that!  She said sometimes, out of nowhere, her computer would freeze up and she would have to reboot by holding the “on” button for 5 seconds.  Of course, since this is not an orderly shut down  she could loose anything she was working on when forced to do this.

I told her what she was looking for was a registry cleaner since the types of problems she was experiencing are usually caused by registry corruption.  The errors a computer throws at the user are usually the result of Windows not being able to find the file it is looking for.  The file is somewhere, Windows just doesn’t know where!

Errors Cleaner for Pc with Error Problems

Microsoft suggests no one work on a Windows registry manually unless he/she is no less than a Microsoft Certified
Professional.  There is good reason Microsoft makes that assertion.  If we are not sure exactly what result changing a certain entry in the in the registry will have, changing this entry will usually have very bad results.  Even worse, these bad results could be irreversible!

The way to go about editing the registry is to use a registry cleaner.  Registry cleaners will restore registries to their best working condition.  This is all I need to know about fixing registries.

The only other thing I need to know about registries themselves is they are altered by any changes we make to our windows operating system.  The changes I mean are things like adding or deleting a software program.  Any change you make in the control panel will change entries in the registry.  In fact, any changes you can make through regedit, you can make and be literally walked through that same change by making it in the control panel.

The question is, why would you want to risk severe damage to your Windows operating system by using regedit when you can easily and safely make any change you could possibly need to make through the control panel?  You can relax when you are making changes through the control panel because if you if should do something weird in there, Windows will pop up a message telling so and ask you if you really want to do it.  Regedit isn’t so forgiving!

So, you can see Microsoft isn’t being smug by not wanting us to tamper directly with their registries by using regedit.  It is just that it is best to heed their advice and steer clear of the temptation to use the Windows registry editor.

There was a time registry cleaning software had not yet been developed.  Back then, a computer owner had no choice
 but to seek the help of a computer technician when his/her PC exhibited any symptoms we now recognize as the normal tell-tale signs of a registry in need of repair.

Winxp Registry Repair

Orphaned files usually are the result of having removed a software program from the computer.  When software is installed, the the installer program will write entries into the registry to let the operating system know where the next needed file can be found.  However, the un-installer program most times leaves these types of entries in the registry because the program writers don’t believe removing them is important.  They may be right but the problem is orphaned files accumulate over time and can slow the computer’s speed significantly. 

Spyware are truly software programs and when removed, spyware removers leave orphaned files frm them behind, too.  This is because spyware cleaners are simply not very good registry scanners.  Another thing that leaves orphaned files behind is removing hardware.  Files become orphaned when hardware is removed because their device drivers are removed along with the  hardware and of course hardware un- installers also do a sloppy job of removing registry entries.

To complicate things further, upgrading drivers, a process that happens automatically and often, leaves orphaned files in  the registry because a driver upgrade is really a driver removal and then the installation of another driver.

Just a few years ago, the software removal and upgrade process would leave a few orphaned files behind.  In today’s huge operating systems, namely Windows XP and Windows Vista, such files are left behind by the thousands.  This of course, takes its toll on your computer’s speed.

Nowadays, registry scanners are contained within registry cleaners.  So, whereas in the old days of scanning the registry for errors, you would locate the errors and the orphaned files and such with a registry scanner and then find a way to actually remove, repair and replace the problem files.   Today, you just run a registry cleaner and it takes care of the whole process in one operation.

Registry Scanner

Inherent to a Windows operating system is a central database which is called a registry.  The registry keeps track of everything the operating system comes in contact with, either directly or indirectly.  It keeps track of all hardware attached to the computer.  It knows of all the computer users, their profiles, programs they use, permissions they have and what websites they visit.  While this may seem like a long list of duties the registry performs, it is not.  In fact, the registry keeps track of things that go far beyond this scope.

In its normal line of duty, a registry is constantly adding and deleting things from its master list.  A lot of information gets lost in the shuffle of trying to keep a registry 100% up to date.  Somethings that should get deleted do not become entirely deleted and some registry entries become corrupt.  Corrupt entries actually feed the operating system false information.  Keep in mind, this registry mismanagement is not a rare occurrence.  In fact, if you use your computer every day, it happens every day.

After an extended period of time passes, the registry will have gathered enough inaccurate and useless entries that it will cause quite a traffic jam for all the information that passes through it.  In short, this is what causes a computer to become very slow.  Of course, no one is forced into using Windows, but I for one, will not use any other operating system.  I’ve tried alternatives, but Windows is so far superior and easier to use than any other OS, I will choose Windows even though they do have the problem that bottlenecks can form in the registry .  Other operating systems have bigger problems than that!

All you can do to keep corruption and other errant entries out of the registry is use a good registry cleaner periodically.  This will keep your computer from becoming very slow.  In fact, the best registry cleaners include registry optimizers within their software package and this in some instances, will make the computer faster than ever!  Yes, using a registry cleaner is an additional step you have to take if you are going to choose Windows as your operating system, but in the long run it is a very small inconvenience.

Computer Very Slow

Regedit is a built-in software program technicians use to modify settings in  a Windows registry.  At one time it was the only way anybody could replace a bad entry that had been placed into the registry by software the computer was running.  Thank goodness regedit was available. 

Without regiedit Windows registries could not be repaired and therefore a computer’s performance would suffer. Bad enough its performance would suffer but registry corruption has a way of compounding.  Therefore, a small amount of registry corruption would eventually lead to major problems.  Eventually, a hard drive reformat would be the only hope there would be to get the computer functioning again.

On the other hand, probably more operating systems were destroyed by people working in regedit than by the corruption they were looking to remove.  This is because regedit is not a user friendly type program.  When you enter something into the registry it takes affect right away.  There are no warnings such as, “Do You really want to do this?”

Regedit is very unforgiving.  So much so, the wrong entry into the registry could actually make it impossible to get back into regedit to remove that entry.   In other words, it is inadvisableto use regedit without  the supervision of a Microsoft Certified Engineer.

On the other hand, any one of us can use a highly recommended registry cleaner without fear of serious consequences.  It is true, using a low grade registry cleaner can do more harm than good to a Windows registry, but using the right one will free you of that worry.

Registry cleaners are necessary because of today’s titanic operating systems.   Their periodic use will keep a registry free of corruption and therefor the computer will remain fast and run smoothly.   They will make repairs to registry faster than a technician could type “regedit!”  Because we now have these cleaners at our disposal we don’t need regedit at all.

Regedit cleaner

Anyone like me, who used to toil for hours at a time tracking down Windows registry errors, really appreciates the genius of the modern registry cleaner software.  As if the speed at which registry cleaners do their job isn’t enough, most of the better registry cleaners today have a registry optimization function as well.

Registry optimization is an additional set of software instructions registry cleaners execute once they are through with their registry file scanning and registry error repairing functions.  The optimizing process will further streamline commonly used registry operations and this will in turn, take even more strain off the operating system thereby letting the computer perform many of its functions even faster.

Back in the days of Windows 3.11, the Windows registry was microscopic compared to today’s registries.  The registry’s size of course, is dependant upon the size of the operating system.   The early Windows 95 OS was also very small compared to today’s giant operating systems.  Actually, Windows 95 service pack 2 took a huge leap in  size over its predecessor as it changed its file system from FAT16 to FAT 32. 

Each succeeding operating system continued to grow in size.  The one exception would be that Windows ME is actually newer and smaller in size than it’s predecessor Windows 2000.  The point is Windows XP absolutely dwarfs all the operating systems that came  before it.  Obviously, a regular Windows 98 registry cleaner would not be capable of cleaning it.  As you might imagine Windows Vista is still another leap up in size from Windows XP and so a new type registry cleaner had to be developed that would scan and repair it.

Most registry cleaners we use today are several registry cleaners in one package.  Many are Windows 98 registry cleaners, Windows XP registry cleaners ans Windows Vista registry cleaners in the same package.  When the user starts the registry scanner on his computer, the software recognizes the operating system it is starting to scan and switches to the appropriate registry cleaner.  So, if it is a Windows XP operating system it is scanning it will know to use its Windows XP programming.

Some registry cleaners contain all the operating system software programs and so they do not stipulate on their fact page which operating systems they are compatible with.  They clean them all.

Windows XP Registry Cleaner

I heard someone say that he needed to fix register problems to get his computer’s speed back.  He certainly was correct in his sentiments but his terminology was a little off.  Yes, it is confusing because computers certainly have registers.  In fact, they have quite a few registers.

Computer registers are contained in the microprocessor.  They are what does all the internal calculations.  Plain and simply stated, if there were no registers, there would be no computers.

An important part of a Windows operating system is its registry.  The registry is a Windows data base strructure that organizes the entire operating system.  You have to maintain your registry or your computer will be slow and difficult to work with.  The way to fix registry problems and to keep your registry in proper order is to run a registry cleaner regularly.

Fix Register

A good registry cleaning program can be far more productive than a human ever could be in detecting and repairing a PC problem.  Sometimes it can take a person hours to track down a particular registry entry that is causing a computer to act in an undesirable way.  A registry cleaner, on the other hand can find hundreds of problems, if there are hundreds of registry problems, in just a few seconds.

There are times some folks like to entry the registry manually to make adjustments to the way your computer operats.  Making a tweak in this way to the registry requires running the operating system’s built in program, Regedit.  Then expanding folders until the right folder is found and then changing a number or a code to the file in that folder.  Sometimes instead of a number, a yes is changed to a no.  Sometimes, though I cringe to think about it, a file is deleted.  I cringe because deleting the wrong file can spell total disaster for the operating system!

Someone told me about entering Regedit to make it so his favorites menu would be alphabetized.   Though I don’t know this procedure off hand, I know one would start by entering the HKEY_CURRENT_USER folder which is one of the 5 main registry hives.  After entering this hive I imagine it would require a laborious set of steps to get the favorites menu to be alphabetized.  This fellow admitted it was rather complicated.  I told him if he went to his favorites menu, right clicked on any favorites entry and then chose “sort by name” from the menu, his favorites would become alphabetized.

That is just one example.  For anything you can do by entering the registry there is an easier way to do the same thing through the Windows interface; or as the techie types would prefer saying, GUI.  So, the bottom line is don’t go playing around in the registry to make some kind of tweak.  As far as making fixes to the registry is concerned, use a registry cleaner, it’s much safer and a whole lotb easier!

Registry Fixes

The exception to when a registry cleaner will clean and fix a egistry at the same time is when a person interested in finding out if he or she has corruption in the computer’s registry employs a free scan. This initial scan will allow anyone to get a registry scan before this potential customer makes a purchase. This way, anyone can see if he or she needs the registry to be fixed before purchasing a registry cleaner.

If this intitial scan turns up corruption, the customer will have to pay for a licence to activate the full strength of the registry cleaner. hen another scan will be performed that will fix the broken, missing and corrupt registry files. This cleaning will much more often than not result in a computer regaining its lost speed and it will stop errors and crashes.

After the first scan, the cleaner and fixer software will operate in a way that will scan, clean and fix in one operation. Then the cleaner can be set to run automatically on off hours and this will maintain the computer’s speed and high level of performance.

For this reason, in recent years registry clean and fix software has become more and more popular. In my opinion, it is well worth the small price to have a program on hand that will keep your PC running at top speed.

Registry Cleaner and Fixer

How to clean registry in the old days, like in about 2003, it took a lot of patients and a lot of know how.  These were the days before registry cleaners when registry cleaning had to be done by hand.  When a computer was having a lot of errors, crashes and/or running slowly and it was found to be free of
 and viruses, a technician would be called in to track down the registry problem.

The program a technician would run back in thse days is known as “Regedit.”  Regedit is a program bulilt in to the Windows operating system and is accessed from the run command line.  Once the technician enters the program he finds a Windows Hierarchal structure that consists of thousands of folders and files.  Helping somewhat is the fact these thousands of files and folders used to be broken down into 6 parts.  The parts were referred to as hives.  Actually, Windows registries are still broken down into hives.  The only difference is today there are 5 instead of 6.

It is my opinion, back in these days registries rarely ever were 100% after they developed problems.  Usually, all a technician could do was get the computer running again.  Often its performance would still be below par.  Ah yes, the good old days for we technicians!  Back when almost every computer was crashing all the time!

Then came the registry cleaner.  A registry cleaner can scan through an entire Windows registry in minutes checking each registry entry on the fly.  Checking every registry entry is something a human couldn’t do, probably in a lifetime!

After the registry program is through with its scan it will then go back through and repair or replace the entries it found to be corrupt and just as importantly, it will eliminate the entries that are not needed.  The reason this is important is it is the no longer needed entries which have been left over from previous operations that will often make a computer slow.

So, using a registry cleaner is the answer to the” how to clean registry problems” question.  However, before you go out and get a free scan with just any registry cleaner make sure you take the advice from someone who has used registry cleaners so you know you will be getting a dependable product.  The reason for this is a registry cleaner of an unknown quality may do you no good at all.  Even worse, an outdated or poor cleaner could cause you more problems than you have already!

One final note:  Don’t use Regedit ever!  Not only is it near impossible to fix a registry using Regedit, if you make one wrong entry while using it, it could be curtains for your operating system!

How To Clean Registry

The reason registry corruption has this affect on computers employing Windows operating systems is the corruption gives the operating system large blocks of inaccurate information it must work around in order to get its job done.  The OS has to sort through this corruption and discover which information is true and which is not.  Naturally, this takes time because the operating system has to take many, sometimes millions of extra steps to do just one operation.

Often registry corruption is referred to as false pointers.  This is because the registry points the operating system toward its next instruction.  If this pointer is a false one Windows has to perform an unnecessary step getting nothing done.  So, it must backtrack, look at another pointer and go from there.  Hopefully, this next step will  not be another unproductive one.  If it is, Windows will have to try again.

In the meantime, all these extra steps are making the computer operator wait as he/she taps his/her feet hoping to get
 some results.  Of course, many of these unproductive operations in succession will result in a computer error or maybe even a blue screen crash!

After a registry check locates all the false pointers in the registry a good registry cleaner should be used to flush out all this bad stuff.  Most times the registry check and clean programs are contained in the same software package and invariably this program is called simply, a registry cleaner.

Using a good registry cleaner will take care of registry corruption problems in usually 10-15 minutes.  This will get a slow computer back up to speed and eliminate PC errors.  However, beware there are sub par registry cleaners on the market and these can sometimes do more harm than good!

The internal registry utility which is built into Windows XP is Regedit.  It is accessed through the “run” command.  Windows Vista has the same tool but it accessed in a different manner.  It is not recommended anyone use the Regedit utility because if a wrong entry were made into it, the computer could fail altogether.  Regedit use to be all a technician or anybody else had in order to get into the registry and repair any problems inside it.  Since this was prior to the advent of registry cleaners Regedit was the only tool we had to try to repair our failing registries , so sometimes we had no choice but to use it. 

Now, fortunately registry cleaners abound and they will take care of the job of freeing our registries of corruption, automatically!  The advantages of using a good registry cleaner over trying to repair a registry using Regedit are many.  Among these advantages are:

• A good registry cleaner will not cause any harm to your registry in the way using the registry utility, Regedit potentially could.
• No training is needed to use a registry cleaner.
• Free scans are available so you will know whether or not you need a registry cleaning before you go ahead and purchase one.
• A good registry cleaning utility will have additional functions in the software program that will increase your computer’s speed in ways impossible if you simply cleaned the registry of corruption.  One such operation the best registry cleaners perform is “registry optimization.”

In short, registry cleaners are the registry utilities that take all the hard work a computer owner used to be faced with when he or she was trying to perform the formerly arduous task of getting and keeping a PC fast and error free.

Registry corruption is left behind when any software program is removed from a PC.  Keep in mind all hardware is accompanied by their device drivers and they also, are software programs.  While this may seem like enough of a chance for a Windows registry to become corrupt; spyware is software as well and when it is removed, naturally registry corruption is left in its wake.

It stands to reason that a registry repair software would have to have capabilities a previous Windows operating system cleaner would not require. This of course, is not to say Windows XP is simple, it is far from it.  Still, Windows Vista is different from XP and so it requires a different type of software to scan it.

There is no one peice of software that can scan and repair different operating system registries. Registry scanners that are capable of cleaning Windows XP and Vista for instance, are multipart software packages. The have the intelegence to recognize whether it is a Windows XP or Vista registry they are scanning as soon as the proccess begins. If it is an XP operating system, its XP scanner kicks in. Fix PC Errors

The problem can be with the installation disk or other type of media.  However, this is usually not the case with a new product.  Without getting involved with dealing directly with the .net framework, running a good registry cleaner will tell you if corruption in the operating system’s registry could be the problem.

The reason this is so is because Windows error messages don’t always tell you the truth. Sometimes it is a fact that there is a problem with your installed program, such as flight simulator but sometimes there is not a problem with that program at all. It is often as if the Windows error message is telling you the story with its fingers crossed behind its back because the message it is giving you is not accurate.

How could this be so? The answer is because Windows registry corruption is causing the problem. Plain and simple, Windows is not recognizing certain parts of the program and reinstalling the program will not help at all but cleaning the operating system’s registry will help.

With registry corruption removed, Windows will now recognize the installed program and be able to direct information properly to the program and back from it. When this happens there will be no more error messages and the program will work as it should.

Error 2337

Microsoft describes a repair scenario for a 2908 error where the user goes into MSCONFIG to tackle the
problem.  Thank goodness for registry cleaners because now that they are available you don’t have to follow such a procedure anymore.  MSCONFIG can be usful in desparate situations, but you should be aware that as soon as you enter MSCONFIG, all your restore points are erased!

While the 2908 is no longer a common error, its type is still very common and most errors of this type are registry errors.  An alphanumeric sequence on the screen that looks anything like the one above is a dead give away registry corruption is behind the problem.

I’ve heard many people say they reformatted their hard drives because of these types of errors but all that was necessary was running a good registry cleaner.

To modify or change the registry by hand, the “regedit” command is entered into the run box found in the start menu in
Windows XP.  The equivalent program in Windows Vista is the registry editor which is in the management console.  Either way, fooling around in these progams in order to atempt to repair a registry problem is unwise at best.  No good can become of it.

Even a high level IT will use a god registry cleaner to take care of any registry problems.  The only time he or she would edit the registry by hand would be to restrict or change some ability of a program or user he or she is responsible for overseeing.

When a registry has irregularities that need repairing, it is said to be a corrupt registry.  Registry corruption slows down computer speed because when corrupted a registry processes a certain amount of information inaccurately, it will have disregard these inaccurate operations and try again in order to complete the calculation correctly.  This of course, wastes time.

Operating inefficiently means you’ll likely see many Windows registry errors such as a runtime error r6025.  Of course the biggest error of them all is the blue screen of death, and more times than not it is registry corruption that causes the blue screen.  The only way to be sure registry corruption never develops or to eliminate the corruption that is already in the registry is to use a registry cleaner.

Windows Registry Errors

I estimate a registry cleaner would, indeed, solve a runtime error 90 to 95% of the time.  However, be aware of the great deceiver, malware.  Since malware invades registries it can cause the registry to corrupt in such a way it would be prone to runtime errors.  In this case, a regisatry cleaner would cure the registry problem but in a short time the malware would corrupt the registry again causing the runtime error to raise its ugly head once more.

To be sure you fix this error, make sure your virus cleaner is capable of areesting all malware. Most virus cleaners are not.  So, you may have to run  a top notch spyware cleaner such as antispyware plus.  Then after you are sure you are malware free, run the registry cleaner.

Usually, the XP running slow problem stems from corruption in the registry.  It is not abuse responsible for this corruption.  Registry corruption is virtually unavoidable.  So, the only thing a computer owner can do is use a registry cleaner regularly.  This should be done after a virus and spyware scan, but not necessarily  after every virus/spyware scan.  Usually, you can get away with using a registry cleaner weekly.

For what it is worth, Windows XP home seems to corrupt more quickly than XP Professional.  Though Windows Vista’s registry corrupts more slowly than XP’s, it will develop registry corruption, it is just a matter of time.

XP Running Slow

Several years ago, there were many different kinds of software programs avialable that would do just that.  They would scan a Windows registry in its entirety, and print out to the screen any problems it found.  Usually, these checker programs were software code written by individuals who were not backed by any company.  Such programs were mostly available as
“freeware” or “shareware.”  These programs predated even the registry checker program included with Windows 95, 98 and ME.

After a these programs reported their findings to the user, it was up to the user to find a way to repair the registry.  This part of the task was sometimes accomplished by entering the Windows “Regedit” program and removing or replacing the files the registry checker had found problems with.

Using Regedit is not recommended for a novice computer technician because irreparable harm can result from making a wrong entry into the registry in this manner.  Even the most qualified technicians find using Regedit to be an arduous task!

Today’s registry cleaners include the function that used to be performed by a registry checker.  This is why registry cleaners are so often called registry checkers.  Indeed, registry cleaning software programs have registry checker functions within them.  The difference is when a registry cleaner finds registry problems, it still reports them back to the user but then it goes ahead and repairs, or cleans out, the registry troubles.  This of course, makes a registry cleaner a registry checker plus much more!

Today’s computers are bombarded with registry corruption.  Registry corruption makes PC slow and often unresponsive.  It causes computers to commit errors and often to crash, or freeze up altogether.  Because registry cleaners find and rid computers of registry corruption, they have become a very important computer maintenance tool.

Registry Checker has been replaced in newer versions of Windows by System File Checker.  However, SFC does not repair corrupt registry files the way a registry cleaner does, either.

When you are deciding on which registry cleaner to use, you should look for one that is optimizer as well as a cleaner.  An optimizer will put your registry’s most used commands at the top of the list the operating system looks at when getting its next instruction.  During the course of one million instructions, which could be one very small operation, this can help save your microprocessor a lot of time and resources it would have used if the registry had not been optimized.

I have had people tell me after they had their registries cleaned and optimized with one highly rated registry cleaner in particular, their computer had never been so fast.  Not that it hadn’t been this fast in a while, but it had never been so fast!  This is quite an endorsement for registry optimizers!

Still, it is important to note the registry cannot truly be optimized unless it is cleaned first.  Cleaning a Windows registry involves scanning through the registry for errors, and then repairing any errors that were found.  Without this process taking place it would be impossible to for the registry to be optimized because the errors, or the stuff in the registry slowing the computer down would be what the software would see as the most used part of the registry.  What would happen in such a case is Windows would become more efficient at performing the operations that were slowing the computer down. 

The moral of this story is even if best registry cleaner had no optimizing software, it would still be better than a so-so registry cleaner that included an optimizer.

Actually, all the better registry cleaners do include optimizers these days and they are a great addition to the registry cleaner software.

Now, most of the top registry cleaners are Vista ready.  Still, it is important to make sure your registry scan and check program is Vista ready before you try to use it on a Vista operating system.

It would be unwise to use a low quality cleaner, such as a free one because it may not do the job so well and this could also lead to an inoperable computer.  Of course, an inoperable computer means there will be valuable files lost.  Some of them may be difficult or impossible to replace!

So that you will be sure to know the free registry cleaner has cleaned all it is going to for free, the registry software will execute a pop-up on you desktop telling you you better buy their product now!    This pop-up has no close button and and it seems to follow you around wherever you surf.   To get rid of this pop-up you have to go to the task manager (cntrl-alt-del) and try to close it there.

Have you heard enough?   Me too!  Still there’s more.  To use the previously referred to as free registry cleaner in the first place, you have to register your copy with the company.   This means they get your email address so they cansend lots of email telling you it’s time to pay for this free product!

It is also worth taking note that most of these registry cleaners don’t mention anything about being Vista ready which means they are really not up date cleaners and probably don’t measure up in many other ways, either.

The bottom line is; these free registry cleaners are anything but free.  In fact, after the first 50 incidents of corruption are cleaned, the cleaner becomes about the most expensive one on the market!

Going without a registry cleaner in this day and age could be likened to computer infanticide.  Choosing one on the sole basis of price is not a wise move, either.  If you don’t know which registry cleaner to get, try to find a trusted source who will give you a recommendation.  Probably this trusted source should be a computer technician or a friend who has used the product.

In closing, a registry cleaner is an important computer maintenance tool because registries in today’s operating system become corrupted for a number of reasons.  One of these reasons is adware and spyware and temporary files are being removed from the hard drive all the time and this leaves corruption in the registry. So, to remove this corruption, a registry cleaner is needed.  However, as we have learned, a free one just doesn’t cut the mustard!
