5 Tips That Will Help Prevent And Fix Computer Errors
Computer errors are the bane of any computer operator. Anything that makes your computer stop in the middle of an operation can be very frustrating. When this happens you could lose unsaved work and many times you will have to start a whole project all over again because of a computer error. What's even worse is the thought that the computer may have crashed for good and you will never be able to get it started again.
Maybe someday, technology will have gotten us to the point we'll where we will never have to worry about computer errors ever again. Unfortunately, in today's world, computer errors are alive and well. Let's talk about what can be done to keep computer errors at a minimum and what to do to a computer that has been experiencing computer errors.
1. Get Downloads Only From Trustworthy Sources
Only download software from someone you trust very much. There are many software and freeware directories out there and most of them are very reputable. These directories would never let you download anything that was spyware or virus infested. However, there are pieces of software out there that will virtually wreck your computer. Stay away from certain toolbars that are known to contain spyware.
These toolbar maker's motivation is to steal your personal information. What this type of spyware does is not only heinous because it actually spies on you, but in doing so it will slow down your computer and cause errors. Of course, the people who make these toolbars don't care at all the trouble they cause.
2. Keep Away From Drivers That Are Not Digitally Signed
Only use digitally signed drivers. This, of course, applies to Microsoft Windows users, which most of us are. Many unsigned drivers can work fine. Still, there are those that will raise havoc with your Windows system. When you buy a new piece of software, use the manufacture's recommended driver.
If you have used software or drivers that seem to be causing computer errors, make sure you scan your entire hard drive with a good spyware/virus cleaner. Then, after any spyware or viruses have been removed, make sure to scan the registry with a registry cleaner.
3. Don't Make Changes To Your Registry Manually
Speaking of your registry, unless you're a Microsoft certified professional, don't make changes to your registry manually. There may be cases where you are following a script a Microsoft professional has written for you. This would be okay. However, never go into the Regedit program and start changing things. The results could be disastrous!
4. Be Very Sure of Every Email Attachment You Open
Another computer killer could be the virus unleashed by opening e-mail attachments. Be very sure what you're opening before you click on an e-mail attachment. Make sure you know the sender of the e-mail very well, and make sure you're positive the e-mail was sent by him or her.
5. Use a Top Rated Registry Cleaner Regularly
Most of the time computer errors are caused because a virus or spyware is present on the computer, or because the computer has a corrupt registry. Though it is not foolproof, the best way to prevent spyware from entering your computer is to follow the instructions as above. However, spyware will always find its way into a computer, so you must do a spyware scan everyday.
Still, on today's operating systems, this is not enough. The registry has to be a kept free of corruption, as well. The only way to do this is this scan it periodically with a good registry cleaner. It is my experience, that even though e-mail attachments, unsigned drivers and bad downloads can cause serious computer problems, nothing causes more common computer errors than a corrupt registry.
