It is common for a Windows XP operating system to be running slow after the PC has been used in the 0rder of 1,000 hours. While this may sound like a long time, it is less than a year for a computer that gets 4 hours of use a day. Some
computers, for instance computers used at work, get much more use than that.
Usually, the XP running slow problem stems from corruption in the registry. It is not abuse responsible for this corruption. Registry corruption is virtually unavoidable. So, the only thing a computer owner can do is use a registry cleaner regularly. This should be done after a virus and spyware scan, but not necessarily after every virus/spyware scan. Usually, you can get away with using a registry cleaner weekly.
For what it is worth, Windows XP home seems to corrupt more quickly than XP Professional. Though Windows Vista’s registry corrupts more slowly than XP’s, it will develop registry corruption, it is just a matter of time.
