Windows repair software can refer to one of two things. First, a part of each Windows operating system disk is a program that is designed for repairing a windows installation that has gone bad. Back in the Windows 2000 days, the
installation disk had a repair console you could boot to when your OS was in trouble. Vista, will actually let you re-install it without reformatting the hard drive. It will take all files it finds and save them in a directory called Windows/old.

However, today when we talk about Windows repair software we are usually speaking of a registry cleaner. A registry cleaner will remove all the bad files from the registry and in many cases, get a poorly performing Windows installation back up and running at 100%.

Error 2908

An error 2908 is normally an error that will occur when something is awry in the operating system’s .net framework. It is the result of an installation gone bad; usually Windows Office 2000. The error often will be accompanied by an alphanumeric sequence similar to {7D4B5591-4C80-42BB-B0E5-F2C0CEE02C1A}. This is registry address and an error 2908 is most often the result of registry corruption.

Microsoft describes a repair scenario for a 2908 error where the user goes into MSCONFIG to tackle the
problem. Thank goodness for registry cleaners because now that they are available you don’t have to follow such a procedure anymore. MSCONFIG can be usful in desparate situations, but you should be aware that as soon as you enter MSCONFIG, all your restore points are erased!

While the 2908 is no longer a common error, its type is still very common and most errors of this type are registry errors. An alphanumeric sequence on the screen that looks anything like the one above is a dead give away registry corruption is behind the problem.

I’ve heard many people say they reformatted their hard drives because of these types of errors but all that was necessary was running a good registry cleaner.
