Also, when anything is installed on the PC, Windows gathers the information about this software or hardware. It is easy for Windows to read a new software program being installed, especially if it is Windows approved software.

When hardware is installed, a software package called a device driver is installed along with it. It is the device driver that tells Windows what is contained in the hardware. Windows also keeps track of the device drivers in its registry.

The point is; Windows learns about everything involved with the computer during the installation process and on-the-fly as things are added and deleted from the computer.

It is the registry the CPU goes to in order to find directions to whatever it needs to complete an operation. So, you can easily see how the registry is involved in everything you try to do on your computer. In short, its importance can’t be underestimated.

Because of the speed of which entries are being exchanged in the registry, fragments of files develop there. It is almost as if these fragments of files, or registry corruption, are bread inside the registry. This happens with Windows

registries whether they are in a Windows 95 operating system, a Windows 2000 operating system or a Windows 7 operating system. It is also true of any other Windows operating system.

Yes there are differences between registries in different operating systems but they all function the same and they all have a tendency to become corrupt.

The result of registry corruption is a loss of computer performance. Windows sees registry corruption as just normal registry files. Therefore the computer gets directed by this corruption as it would be by any viable registry file. So by performing tasks that are directed by registry corruption, the computer simply waste time whereas a corruption free registry would not be the purveyor of false operations.

What all this means is a registry must be kept free of corruption for the operating system to work at its best and allow the power possessed by the computer to be used in completing the tasks you want it to complete.

In fact, the two types of main registry cleaners would be those designed for:

• Windows 95
• Windows 98
• Windows ME

 And those designed for:

• Windows 2000
• Windows XP
• Windows Vista

The reason for these differences is the fact that Windows, up until Windows 2000, all used a filing system known as F AT 32 and this filing system used a registry that consisted of six main parts known as hives.

Windows 2000, or actually a prelude to Windows 2000 known as Windows NT, changed this filing system to one called NTFS and this system used five registry hives instead of six.

Technically, Windows 2000 came out just before Windows ME. However Windows ME clearly belongs to the six hive registry family, whereas Windows 2000 belongs to the five hive Windows registry system.

Besides the filing systems used and the number of hives used by different Windows operating systems, there are other differences between operating systems, even those of the same family. However, these differences are largely a matter of size.

Windows XP is a much larger operating system, and therefore has a much larger registry then Windows 2000. However, Windows Vista is much bigger than Windows XP and Windows 7 is much bigger still than any of them.

Even the older six hive registry operating systems became bigger as the newer ones came down the pike. For instance, Windows 95 was tiny compared to Windows 98 and Windows ME. However, most registry cleaners capable of cleaning ME were also capable of cleaning Windows 95 and Windows 98.

Still, many registry cleaners are capable of cleaning Windows 98 operating systems right through to Windows 7 operating systems even though this means they must be capable of dealing with both six and five hive registries. You really have to check the specs on a registry cleaner and never assume it’ll clean one operating system just because it cleans another.

There are probably more registry cleaners that will clean Windows XP registries than any other. Also, even though Windows 7 has been around for a while now, there are a lot of registry cleaners, even big-name registry cleaners that are not yet ready for Windows seven. So, once again you must check which operating systems a registry cleaner is ready for before you proceed to use it.

Windows 98 registries, and Windows 95 and Windows ME registries for that matter, use a registry system that consists of six main parts. Many times, computers would just continue to get slower and slower until they were replaced simply because there was no easy way to clear out registry problems. Registry problems are very common and creep up in all Windows operating systems, even if the computer is very well cared for. In other words, Windows registry problems are just a way of life and always have been.

The bottom line is; if you have an older computer that has Windows 98 and it isn’t running so well you may not be out of luck. Possibly, all you will have to do is install a registry cleaner on the computer and you will bring it back to life again. However beware, computers with Windows 98 installed are usually, absolutely prehistoric. In other words, they usually have an early Pentium microprocessor or possibly a Pentium II with a 2.2 GHz hard drive and 128K of RAM. They may run, or should we say crawl at about 300 MHz of speed. Therefore, a Windows 98 computer system running to all as potential will probably not be what you would be used to if you have been using a computer less than three years old.

Still, a PC with Windows 98 installed, though it may be considered a real dinosaur, can be useful and certainly it will bring back memories. Aside from that, why throw it out when it may be a $30 registry cleaner will revamp it entirely.

Computer freezes come out of the blue without warning. It would be nice if an alert message came on the screen telling you your computer was about to freeze so you could save everything you have opened, but you will get no such warning. Most times, registry corruption is the result of normal use. So, don’t beat yourself up if you have registry corruption. All PC’s using Windows operating systems will develop registry corruption sooner or later and in varying amounts. All we can do is use a good registry cleaner to get and keep it free of this corruption. This is the simple, and really, the only solution we have and it’s not such a bad one.

Anyone like me, who used to toil for hours at a time tracking down Windows registry errors, really appreciates the genius of the modern registry cleaner software.  As if the speed at which registry cleaners do their job isn’t enough, most of the better registry cleaners today have a registry optimization function as well.

Registry optimization is an additional set of software instructions registry cleaners execute once they are through with their registry file scanning and registry error repairing functions.  The optimizing process will further streamline commonly used registry operations and this will in turn, take even more strain off the operating system thereby letting the computer perform many of its functions even faster.

Back in the days of Windows 3.11, the Windows registry was microscopic compared to today’s registries.  The registry’s size of course, is dependant upon the size of the operating system.   The early Windows 95 OS was also very small compared to today’s giant operating systems.  Actually, Windows 95 service pack 2 took a huge leap in  size over its predecessor as it changed its file system from FAT16 to FAT 32. 

Each succeeding operating system continued to grow in size.  The one exception would be that Windows ME is actually newer and smaller in size than it’s predecessor Windows 2000.  The point is Windows XP absolutely dwarfs all the operating systems that came  before it.  Obviously, a regular Windows 98 registry cleaner would not be capable of cleaning it.  As you might imagine Windows Vista is still another leap up in size from Windows XP and so a new type registry cleaner had to be developed that would scan and repair it.

Most registry cleaners we use today are several registry cleaners in one package.  Many are Windows 98 registry cleaners, Windows XP registry cleaners ans Windows Vista registry cleaners in the same package.  When the user starts the registry scanner on his computer, the software recognizes the operating system it is starting to scan and switches to the appropriate registry cleaner.  So, if it is a Windows XP operating system it is scanning it will know to use its Windows XP programming.

Some registry cleaners contain all the operating system software programs and so they do not stipulate on their fact page which operating systems they are compatible with.  They clean them all.

I estimate a registry cleaner would, indeed, solve a runtime error 90 to 95% of the time.  However, be aware of the great deceiver, malware.  Since malware invades registries it can cause the registry to corrupt in such a way it would be prone to runtime errors.  In this case, a regisatry cleaner would cure the registry problem but in a short time the malware would corrupt the registry again causing the runtime error to raise its ugly head once more.

To be sure you fix this error, make sure your virus cleaner is capable of areesting all malware. Most virus cleaners are not.  So, you may have to run  a top notch spyware cleaner such as antispyware plus.  Then after you are sure you are malware free, run the registry cleaner.
