The best regedit fix is by far and away a registry cleaner. This is because running a software program is so easy compared to going through the about one and half million files cotained in a Windows registry.
To modify or change the registry by hand, the “regedit” command is entered into the run box found in the start menu in 
Windows XP. The equivalent program in Windows Vista is the registry editor which is in the management console. Either way, fooling around in these progams in order to atempt to repair a registry problem is unwise at best. No good can become of it.
Even a high level IT will use a god registry cleaner to take care of any registry problems. The only time he or she would edit the registry by hand would be to restrict or change some ability of a program or user he or she is responsible for overseeing.
